Redefining Energy Futures Through Technology

Building Sustainable Futures with Strategy, Empathy, and Innovation

Stephanie Song, Senior Sales Director for Asia at Gentrack, is a remarkable example of how strong values, empathy, and purpose-driven action can come together to create meaningful impact, both in business and beyond. Holding an Executive MBA from INSEAD, she has built an impressive career at the intersection of technology, sustainability, and leadership, while balancing her professional responsibilities with being a devoted mother of two. In her Gentrack’s enterprise software sales role across Asia, she follows the company’s mission to help utility companies accelerate their transition to a cleaner, smarter energy future. Her journey from China to Singapore, where she is now a proud citizen, reflects both her resilience and her global outlook on leadership in the modern energy landscape.

An Enterprise Software Role at Gentrack

At Gentrack, Stephanie’s approach to sales is deeply rooted in the company’s broader mission, to help utilities and energy retailers fast-track their decarbonization and digital transformation journeys. “Aligning sales strategy with our mission means moving beyond short-term targets,” she says. “It’s about building long-term partnerships that enable sustainable growth.” Her focus lies in understanding the technical aspects of each market and also in building trust with clients and fostering collaboration within her stakeholders. For Stephanie, success isn’t defined by closing deals alone; it’s about ensuring that the solutions delivered genuinely empower customers to operate more efficiently and sustainably.

Stephanie is in ongoing engagement with multiple utilities across Asia, a region she views as a key growth hub amid its accelerating energy transition. “There is an immense innovation potential as most utilities are forced to upgrade their technology” Stephanie explains “the imminent energy transition, rooftop solar and EV adoption, decentralisation, increasing energy demand, and strong policy support for renewables are forcing this upgrade” she continues.

Drawing on insights from mature markets like Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, she ensures solutions are tailored to each country’s regulatory and infrastructural needs. A major driver of this transformation is Gentrack’s cloud-native, low-code architecture, which enables utilities to innovate and adapt quickly.

Recognizing that technology adoption can be complex, Stephanie promotes a hands-on approach by encouraging utilities to replace lengthy RFPs with live demo “hackathons,” allowing them to test real-world scenarios, speed up decisions, and ensure better alignment between solutions and outcomes.

At the same time, Gentrack offers utilities adapt to the rise of prosumers, individuals, and businesses generating their own energy by using Gentrack’s flexible platforms to manage two-way energy flows, design innovative tariffs, and make prosumers active partners in the clean energy transition.

The move to AWS and serverless infrastructure has significantly enhanced Gentrack’s agility. According to Stephanie, this shift enables the company to scale effortlessly and roll out updates much faster, allowing teams to address client needs in a matter of weeks rather than months. The partnership with AWS also strengthens Gentrack’s ability to deliver secure, reliable, and cost-effective solutions, reducing the total cost of ownership for utilities as they progress through modernization.

Over the past two years, Stephanie’s role has shifted in line with Gentrack’s growing presence across Asia. She notes that success in this industry requires persistence, as enterprise software sales often involve long cycles and deep relationship-building. Managing this demanding regional role alongside her responsibilities as a mother requires balance and resilience, something she maintains with the unwavering support of her family.

Her view on the utilities industry

“Artificial Intelligence is a top trend among all the utilities in our region” Stephanie explains, “AI is not about replacing people but empowering utilities to deliver smarter, faster, and more sustainable services. Gentrack g2 is fully pre-integrated with Salesforce, this means it comes with AI capabilities so clients can quickly leverage predictive insights and automation without costly customization”

Stephanie acknowledges that the biggest concerns clients raise are cost and delivery at scale to ensure a successful transformation. She addresses these by demonstrating clear ROI; Gentrack’s solutions typically pay back within a few years through reduced operational costs and improved customer satisfaction, and by highlighting the company’s 100% implementation success rate, a testament to its reliability and commitment.

A valuable member of the communities

Stephanie keeps herself busy beyond business for good causes. She is the President of the Rotary eClub of 3310 (2024–2025) in Singapore where she brings the same collaborative and purpose-drive approach to community projects such as the Gift of Sight Project and Project Ray of Hope, empowering communities across Asia through vision care and education.

“My passion for service is found in the Rotary Club, where I’ve had the privilege to contribute to community projects and global initiatives that bring real impact to people’s lives. This aligns with my belief that leadership is about empowering others and giving back” she explains.

She is also in a committee member of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation’s Energy and Chemicals Industry Group. Stephanie brings strong technical and strategic insight that aligns with her mission at Gentrack, where AI, analytics, and distributed energy resources are transforming the utility sector.

A 3-year career-break for a meaningful cause

Stephanie feels women shouldn’t have to choose between career and motherhood. However, her personal circumstances and values made her take a career break “I spent three years as a stay-at-home mother, a decision that took me just one second to make. I told myself, If I live a long life, I’ll have plenty of time to work. But if life is short, then spending it with my children is the best decision I can make. It wasn’t easy, but it was right.” Says Stephanie.

When Stephanie’s children became more independent, she returned to work and her career began to flourish like never before. Every experience and every struggle had shaped her leadership and personality. “I learned to act decisively, to lead with empathy, and to see strength in vulnerability. Those lessons made me a better leader one who builds trust, values people, and leads with compassion.” She explains.

In every role Stephanie plays as enterprise sales, community builder, and mother, Stephanie embodies resilience and purpose. Her journey demonstrates that leadership in today’s world is not just about driving business outcomes, but about enabling transformation with empathy, integrity, and vision.

“Today, I lead with purpose grounded in resilience, guided by empathy, and committed to making a difference both in business and in the community. To every young woman and mother, I want to say: trust yourself, be kind to yourself, and never lose faith in your own strength. The most painful roads often lead to the most powerful transformations”
